Overview
Our exciting adventure on the Apurimac River is classified as one of the best in the world. Our adventure begins in Cusco City at an altitude of 3300 meters above sea level, from where we will go in our private transport down to the Apurimac River, the same that is known in Quechua language as the “God Speaker”, “Oracle” or “Great Speaker”.
The Apurimac River is also the most direct source of the Amazon River, making it the longest river in the world, We put-in at 2,000 mt
It will take us about two hours to prepare all the equipment we will use such as rafts and last generation auto inflatable Catarafts. After the lunch we will raft to our first camp. All meals are prepared by our personal Chef in a natural bonfire under the starry night sky that characterizes the southern hemisphere. At this point we will reach a narrow canyon with a very difficult rapids, so we will have to walk about 300 meters.
Most of the time we will be rafting class III+ and IV rapids, but we also have a few class IV + and V rapids, among the wildlife; in this remote and isolated canyon we could find river otters, bob cats, foxes, torrent ducks, cormorants etc.
Apurimac River Rafting Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco to Apurimac River Rafting
Our adventure begins when we pick you up from your hotel at 9:00 am; in our private transport where we will drive for about 3 hours and half to our starting point at the Huallpachaca Bridge at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. Here we will take about two hours to prepare all our rafting equipment such as: self-bailing rafts, oars, paddles, coolers, helmets, lifejackets, wetsuits, etc. In addition, you will receive a safety talk and learn some rafting techniques that only our Mayuc Professional Guides know.
Here you will learn special techniques such as back to the boat, flipping the raft, swimming a rapid etc.
Here we will camp in a narrow gorge of impressive stone walls; in this natural area our guides will prepare a healthy dinner (Lunch and Dinner included).
Day 2: Rafting in the Apurimac River and Campsite
After enjoying a healthy breakfast prepared by our Rafting Guides; we will begin our rafting at 9:00 am; This day we will be in the water for about 6 hours by Class III and IV rapids; we will only stop for lunch, then arrive at our camp at 4:00 pm ; here we will enjoy tea time (which consists of sharing a variety of snacks, cookies, tea, etc.), in addition to enjoying the pleasant moments that will be unforgettable thanks to our guides; then we will enjoy a delicious dinner with vegetarian option.
At this moment your reward will be to enjoy sleeping on the sandy beach lulled by the waters of the Apurimac River, under the starry sky that characterizes Peru in this part of the southern hemisphere.

Day 3: Apurimac River Rafting
After enjoying a nutritious breakfast, we will raft through some rapids class V, with names such as: “Tooth Ache”, “You First”, “The Last Laugh”. After 3 or 4 hours of rafting through these exciting waters, following the directions of our Rafting experts.
After this section of adventure, we will arrive to pack our things and equipment, to return to Cusco, where we will arrive at 6:00 pm.

About the Apurimac River
The Apurimac River is one of the main rivers of Peru, which constitutes the upper part of the course of the Ucayali River, and part of the main course of the Amazon River. It originates in the Andes mountain range, in the Nevado Mismi mountain (5597 m), between Cuzco and Arequipa, 650 km southeast of Lima and 160 km west of the Lake Titicaca basin, being the most distant source of the Amazon basin.
