This exciting adventure will take us through the rainforest in one of the most remote places in Peru, in the middle of the Tambopata Candamo Natural Reserve, very close to the border between Bolivia and Brazil on the edge of the Amazon basin. Our adventure begins in the city of Cusco; we will transport ourselves in our private transport in the middle of Andean landscapes always appreciating traditional towns and beautiful natural landscapes which will turn into green tropical forests as well as the climate will change from cold to warm, this is where our adventure begins and we are prepared to enjoy the excitement of knowing Peru in this tour.

From here our expedition will take us to the sands of the river, we will leave behind the last human settlements along the way, our trip will take us through the magical tropical world where we can appreciate a diversity of species of flora and fauna, as well as 8 different species of macaws, 13 species of monkeys, another 520 species of birds, jaguars, ocelots, capybaras, caimans, tapirs, giant otters and many species that we can appreciate on the way, always respecting their ecosystem and habitat of these species.
Tambopata is recognized as one of the best preserved habitats; here we can find up to 1000 species of butterflies, another 100 species of mammals, in addition to 600 species of birds, that without counting the great variety of natural flora; on the way we will probably see monkeys, parrots and macaws, and many more.
Overview of our rafting expedition
We will be in the river for 5 days, in Class III and IV rivers. Later, we will arrive at the world famous Macaw Clay Lick, crowded with these birds that are usually very noisy, here we will spend the night and after sunrise we can marvel at the sunrise. Then we will take a motorized canoe to the border town of Puerto Maldonado, where we will spend the night and finish our trip.
In Cusco you can do our classic 1 day tour of the Urubamba River.
Then, we start our trip back in a motorized canoe to the border town of Puerto Maldonado and then by plane to the city of Cusco.
Itinerary Tambopata Tour 8 Days
DAY 1: Cusco to Putina Puncu
To start our tour we pick you up at your hotel in our private transport, which will take us through the highlands and through a 15,000 meter pass to reach the jungle, until we reach our meeting point at the edge of the Amazon basin.

DAY 2: Tambopata River:
As we leave the last traces of civilization, we enter pristine rain forest using the river as a highway, well float down camping on sandy beaches along the way where we will have a chance to encounter wild life.
The Tambopata River is a river in southeastern Peru and northwestern Bolivia. Most is in the Madre de Dios and Puno regions in Peru, but the upper parts of the river form the border between Peru and Bolivia, and its origin is in La Paz department in Bolivia. The Tambopata River is a tributary of the Madre de Dios River and merges into this river at the city of Puerto Maldonado. The river flows through the Tambopata National Reserve.

DAY 3: Exotic animals and Rafting:
The river remains relatively calm and we will navigate class II and III rapids. We will begin to see a variety of different kinds of birds, a few mammals, such as anteaters and giant otters (a species that is in danger of extinction). In the afternoon we will arrive at our campsite to relax and enjoy a delicious dinner.
Tambopata is one of the world’s most diverse wildernesses. It is also one of the best preserved. However, the vast majority of the rain forest’s diversity is in the form of insects. The world record diversities of birds and mammals, are mostly in the form of small, unspectacular species. Large spectacular species are rare, shy, unpredictable and very difficult to see, with few notable exceptions.

DAY 4: Lush Vegetation and Rafting:
Today the landscape begins to change little by little as the river narrows and the rapids increase in difficulty (class III and IV). We will continue seeing splendid native animals to the jungle and with a bit of luck we will see monkeys.
The Tambopata National Reserve in the Peruvian Amazon is one of the world’s most biologically diverse areas. An extraordinary tropical rainforest location between Cuzco and Bolivia where you can immerse yourself in nature, enjoy breath-taking landscapes and have the opportunity of seeing countless wildlife species in their natural habitats.
The reserve is one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world and the Peruvian government has officially recognised it as the Biodiversity Capital of the country.
According to current estimates by the conservationists Fauna Forever, the area is home to 160 species of mammals and at least 650 bird species. Other studies also report 1,200 butterfly species, over 150 species of amphibians and reptiles and approximately 100 fish species, as well as over 10,000 species of plants.

DAY 5: Lush Vegetation and Rafting:
Surrounded by lush vegetation, well run class III and IV rapids and there is a good chance of running into monkeys, capybaras, tapirs and giant river otters among other animals. Our journey will take us through to the macaw lick where we spend the night camping on the river shores.
The area’s macaw and parrot clay licks have been the subject of various wildlife documentaries and magazine articles. Clay licks are exposed “cliffs” on riverbanks where parrots flock, sometimes in the hundreds, to feed on clay.
The Reserve contains the largest known clay lick in the world as well as the highest concentration of clay licks known. Up to 17 different parrot species, including 6 macaw species, visit these claylicks.
DAY 6: MACAW LICK TAMBOPATA RESEARCH CENTER (TRC)
Today we will encounter a very calm section of the river, which will allow us to observe the flora and fauna with peacefulness.
We will end at the macaw lick where we will spend the night in a lodge Tambopata Research Centre. explore the jungle.
The Tambopata Research Center is the only lodge that lies within the Tambopata National Reserve, making it one of the most remote lodges in South America! The lodge’s pristine location means that it’s surrounded by the best wildlife the Amazon jungle has to offer.
Tambopata Research Center (TRC) is one of the most remote lodges in South America and was featured in a National Geographic cover story. It is located deep within the Tambopata National Reserve and adjacent to the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park.

DAY 7: Rio Tambopata / Puerto Maldonado:
At the crack of dawn, we will see a rowdy crowd of macaws with their variegated brilliance spattering the clay riverbank. Later a dug-out motor canoe will meet us to take us to the frontier town of Puerto Maldonado, to spend the night in a hotel. Here our services will end.

DAY 8: PUERTO MALDONADO: CUSCO OR LIMA
Early morning transfer from the Hotel to Puerto Maldonado airport flight Puerto Maldonado to Cusco or Lima.
